Working Communities International Congress
Uniting to Improve Social and Economic Participation

11 - 13 August 2008 Cairns, Queensland Australia

On behalf of NESA, I would like to extend our warmest invitation to attend the Working Communities International Congress.  Improving the lives of individuals, families and communities through improved social and economic participation is an objective being pursued internationally.  We have developed this event to provide an opportunity to bring together people who share in these aspirations to also share their experiences and strategies to broaden perspectives, challenge thinking and inspire innovative solutions.

The Organising Team has developed a strong program which will be attractive to delegates from a broad cross section of the Australasian and international communities.

We have secured prominent speakers, panellists and workshop facilitators to explore the conference’s themes; including keynote speakers such as UK leadership expert Brian Bacon.

The social events, including a welcome reception and congress dinner, will provide delegates with opportunities to network with people from other organisations and sectors who share in the challenge and aspiration to improve social and economic participation.

As part of this conference, delegates will also experience Tropical North Queensland. As a jewel in Australia’s tourism crown, Cairns is a spectacularly beautiful city – where the rainforest meets the Great Barrier Reef. For Southern Hemisphere guests, Cairns in winter will offer the perfect opportunity to escape the cold; while Northern Hemisphere guests will appreciate warm days and beautifully balmy nights.

I encourage you to browse through the program, speaker and registration information on this website. We have provided further information on Cairns and NESA for your convenience.

I would like to thank our sponsors, who will contribute greatly to the success of the congress and all it is set to achieve. If you would like information on becoming a sponsor, or for any more enquiries, please contact us.

In addition I would like to invite delegates interested in a more intensive exploration of the Australian employment services framework to also attend the 2008 NESA National Conference which will also be held in Cairns directly following the conclusion of the International Working Communities Congress.

About the Congress

Working Communities International Congress
Uniting to Improve Social and Economic Participation

11 - 13 August 2008 Cairns, Queensland Australia

The Working Communities International Congress will provide an opportunity for delegates to gain an international perspective of the systems, strategies and initiatives being undertaken to support improved social and economic participation.

Building effective strategies to support social and economic participation is an objective being pursued globally.  It has been driven by ongoing pursuit to alleviate poverty and social exclusion and is fuelled by international trends in workforce ageing.

In addition to Governments, there are many different stakeholders, groups and sectors contributing to the development of strategies in this vital area of work.   Solutions are being developed from a range of perspectives and at a number of levels. This congress will provide delegates with an opportunity to explore and be inspired by work being done around the globe.
